Most people in the community are aware that E.C.C. has an amazing theatre, but I think that they may also be surprised to find outstanding musical and art offerings as well.
East Central College is hosting an art exhibit by painter, Julie Crews from Jan.24-Feb.17. Julie grew up in Asheville, North Carolina and received her Associates of Art from Brigham Young University in Idaho. She now lives in Louisiana with her husband and 5 children.
Julie says that she,"Paints what takes her out of her studio", which to her is her family life. But, even while painting and escaping it for awhile, she is constantly brought back to the beauty in the everyday. She feels that it gives the ordinary a sense of importance and documents it somehow.
I think she has found contentment in her various roles as a wife, mother, and painter...and that shines through in her paintings.
If you would like to read more about Julie, please visit her site at http://www.juliecrews.com/bio. Take a few minutes out of your day to stop by and see this exhibit. You won't be disapointed!
Backstage...at East Central College.
This is my view from "backstage". Being a part of E.C.C. theatre gives me a unique perspective, and hopefully an interesting one. While running the box office, I am exposed to all of the outstanding artistic offerings here. I hope to spotlight the amazing theatre, music, and art programs that E.C.C. presents; and offer a glimpse of the people behind the art.

So, this is my first blog entry with the East Central College Box Office.
I am beyond excited about this new job and that I get to express myself through one of my favorite creative outlets.
I became involved with East Central College Theatre in 2014, when I auditioned for Les Miserables. I was quickly blown away by the level of professionalism that I found and was delighted by this hidden gem, in the middle of nowhere. What I didn't anticipate was that I would soon find a second family. When you spend night after night, rehearsing for hours with people...for better or worse, you become family. Despite the drama (after all it is theatre), the hard work, the long hours, boot camp (brutal for non-dancers), and the loss of your social life...you know that you are a part of something profound. You eat, sleep. and breath whatever show you are currently doing...and you are in love. At every show, the cast and crew take that love and share it with audience...and it is magic!
If you haven't had the opportunity to see a production at E.C.C, please make it a priority. E.C.C. Theatre productions are professional, outstanding offerings, from a committed cast and crew. Our next show is Shrek the Musical from Feb. 16-18. Please visit ecctheatre.com for more information. Come be a part of the magic!
